And hello from San Diego! I\u2019m here for some mastermind adventures and getting quality time with my bestie Betsy, which is the best combo.<\/p>\n<p>For today\u2019s post, I wanted to talk about something I\u2019ve been reflecting lately: what I\u2019d do differently if I were starting my health journey today.<\/p>\n<h2>what I\u2019d do differently if I were starting my health journey today<\/h2>\n<p>I\u2019ve had a few major transition points with my health over the years:<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 In college, when I first decided I wanted to \u201cget healthy.\u201d I tried everything: different eating styles, workouts, routines. Some worked\u2026 some very much did not.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 A few years into marriage, when I stopped taking birth control and realized how much it had been masking symptoms and quietly depleting me. I needed daily naps and lived on multiple cups of coffee just to function.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 During fertility struggles, when I made big shifts in exercise and nutrition and found functional medicine (which was very much considered hocus pocus back in 2009, let me tell you).<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Postpartum, while dealing with intense <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessista.com\/i-made-it\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"follow noopener noreferrer\">postpartum depression and anxiety.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Later, when <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessista.com\/how-i-overcame-autoimmune-struggles\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"follow noopener noreferrer\">eye issues and autoimmune symptoms started showing up<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And now\u2026 here I am.<\/p>\n<p>Am I perfect? Absolutely not <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/16.0.1\/72x72\/1f609.png\" alt=\"\ud83d\ude09\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em;max-height: 1em\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But I feel better now than I did in college\u2026 and it definitely didn\u2019t happen overnight. It took time, mistakes, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.integrativehealthpractitioner.org\/certifications\/hph\/?x=FITNESSISTA&amp;z=5485edec\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">certifications<\/a>, experience, and a lot of learning about nuance and personalization.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessista.com\/how-to-stress-less-this-holiday-season\/khp91of97\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-163440 follow noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-163440\" src=\"https:\/\/yorbestlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/KHP91of97-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"how to stress less this holiday season\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If I were starting over today, here\u2019s what I would do first:<\/p>\n<h3>I would stop under-eating<\/h3>\n<p>I under-ate for years and couldn\u2019t figure out why my hair was falling out, my energy was nonexistent, and my body felt stuck. I wasn\u2019t eating enough protein, fiber, or overall calories, and my body was constantly trying to survive instead of thrive.<\/p>\n<h3>I\u2019d regulate my nervous system before chasing protocols<\/h3>\n<p>I was in fight-or-flight from about age six until\u2026 honestly, just a couple of years ago. I didn\u2019t realize how deeply my nervous system was affecting everything: hormones, digestion, immunity, sleep. It\u2019s taken therapy, supplements, habits, and a lot of awareness to come out of that state. I still remind myself multiple times a day: \u201cThis is not an emergency.\u201d Most of us wildly underestimate how much our nervous system drives our health.<\/p>\n<h3>I\u2019d test sooner<\/h3>\n<p><strong>If you\u2019re not testing, you\u2019re guessing\u2026. and guessing gets expensive.<\/strong> I wasted money on powders and supplements I didn\u2019t need because I didn\u2019t have data. Testing allows you to personalize your plan instead of following whatever is trending or loudest online.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessista.com\/21-day-dr-cabral-detox-recap-and-recipes\/page-1-of-my-oat-test\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-163133 follow noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-163133\" src=\"https:\/\/yorbestlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/page-1-of-my-oat-test.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"888\" height=\"687\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>I\u2019d DIY less and ask for support sooner<\/h3>\n<p>I DIYed my fitness and nutrition for a long time, especially early on. Looking back, I didn\u2019t need to reinvent the wheel.
